About Martin Rothery
Founder of Nine Realms Institute and creator of Sanomentology.
I didn’t set out to build a brand, an “Institute”, or a nine-realm architecture.
I started as client zero – a human trying to survive his own trauma, pain and confusion, and make sense of what was happening in his own mind.
Over decades, that private obsession turned into a body of work: Sanomentology, the Nine Realms, and a way of working with trauma, identity, consciousness and magic that actually matches what I’ve seen in real people.
Today I teach this work to therapists, coaches, healers and serious seekers – especially in the US – who’ve outgrown shallow models but haven’t given up on change.
👉 If you’d rather skip my story and see the model, start here: Nine Realms Explained in 22:22.
I Was Client Zero
Like a lot of people drawn to changework, I didn’t come here because my life was perfectly fine.
I came here because it hurt.
I had my own trauma, my own questions about who I was, what reality was, and why my mind seemed to be running one script while my life ran another.
I tried the usual things:
- traditional therapy
- mindset work
- spiritual teachings
- techniques that promised quick fixes
Some of it helped.
None of it fully matched what I was actually experiencing.
That gap – between what the models said should be happening and what I was really seeing – is what pushed me into decades of learning, experimenting and building my own architecture.
“Every answer I found generated ten new questions.
The Nine Realms are what remained after I stopped pretending the old maps were enough.”
From Collecting Techniques to Building an Architecture
For a long time, I did what everyone does:
- I trained in hypnotherapy and other modalities
- I studied psychology, neuroscience, spirituality, magic
- I ran sessions, watched what worked, and what didn’t
I got good results – but I still felt like I was guessing more often than I liked.
“Let’s try this technique and see…”
That’s not good enough when you’re sitting with real trauma, real pain, real lives.
What I needed wasn’t more techniques.
I needed a map – a way to understand:
- which layer of reality I was working on
- what kind of problem I was actually dealing with
- what belonged at that layer, and what didn’t
Sanomentology was the first big piece.
The Nine Realms are the architecture that holds all the pieces together.
Rough timeline:
- Years of personal struggle and exploration
- Training in hypnotherapy, changework, and allied fields
- Building Sanomentology as a deep healing modality
- Working with clients worldwide – including complex, “strange” cases
- Realising I needed a bigger map to hold it all
- The Nine Realms emerging as that architecture
- Now: teaching the architecture to serious practitioners, especially in the US
How I See Trauma, Identity, Consciousness & Magic
I don’t separate humans into neat categories.
In the rooms I sit in, people bring:
- trauma and long-term pain
- identity collapse and archetypal shifts
- altered states that don’t fit simple labels
– “magical” patterns – synchronicity, energetic phenomena, experiences that refuse to be filed under “just a thought”
Most models force you to choose a lane:
- be strictly clinical, and dismiss half of what shows up
- or be fully mystical, and risk losing structure and ethics
The Nine Realms – and the way I teach – are built for people who refuse that false choice.
Trauma. Identity. Consciousness. Magic.
One architecture. Many ways in.

Who I’m really here for
I’m not trying to be “for everyone”.
- The people who tend to find a home in this work:
- therapists, coaches, healers and guides who’ve seen enough real pain that hype no longer impresses them
- serious seekers who’ve been quietly building their own Franken-model from psychology, spirituality, magic and life experience
- practitioners who feel too deep for the mainstream, but too grounded to vanish into fantasy
- people who’ve realised that they might be the bottleneck – not in a self-blaming way, but because their model hasn’t kept up with what they can sense
Who I’m probably not right for
I’m probably not your person if:
- You want a certificate more than you want competence.
- You want a script more than you want an architecture.
- You’re happy marketing miracles you can’t reliably reproduce.
- You’d rather protect your favourite method than question it.
- You’re looking for someone to tell you you’re already a master and nothing needs to change.
What I’ve Built So Far
The Nine Realms Explained (22:22)
A no-pitch, 22 minute 22 second breakdown of the architecture behind everything.
Your best first step if you’re curious but cautious.
Boundless Foundations (Realms 1–4)
For practitioners and serious seekers who want to rebuild their base – practitioner stance, layered consciousness, identity, archetypes and emotion.
The smartest starting point if you want to do this properly.
Boundless – The Nine Realms
The full architecture: all nine realms, lifetime access, practitioner-level application.
For those who know this is the kind of depth they’ve been hunting for.
How I Try to Work
However far this work spreads, I try to keep a few things non-negotiable:
- Honesty over hype – I won’t promise miracle cures or pretend one technique can fix everything.
- Depth over performance – I’d rather lose people who want quick relief than betray the complexity of real humans.
- Responsibility over fantasy – magic and potentiality matter, but not at the cost of ethics or reality testing.
- Architecture over fashion – I care more about models that still make sense in ten years than being on-trend this month.
If that’s the kind of person you want to learn from, you’re in the right place.
If You See Yourself in This
If you’ve read this far, you’re probably not here by accident.
You’re one of the people I quietly built this for.
The next steps are simple:
watch the Nine Realms Explained
decide if Foundations is the right first step
or, if you know this is your path, go straight into Boundless
Whichever you choose, you’re welcome here.
A final note
You don’t need another guru.
You don’t need another script.
What you probably do need is:
- a clearer map,
- a stronger foundation,
- and someone who takes this work as seriously as you do.
That’s the role I’ve built for myself.
If it resonates, you’re welcome in the Realms.
