Nine Realms Institute · Professional Standards
A certificate tells you what training you completed. It does not quietly turn you into every kind of professional at once.
The basic distinction
The difference is not simply whether somebody intends to charge money afterwards.
Personal Editions are designed for your own study, reflection and self-work. They give you access to the relevant teaching for personal use, but they do not automatically give you practitioner certification, client-use rights, professional support or permission to present yourself as trained to use the material with other people.
Practitioner Editions add the professional layer: application with clients, safety, judgement, ethical use, scope, practitioner responsibility and certification where that applies to the training.
That distinction is particularly important with material involving trauma, subconscious work, identity, altered states, health-related concerns or emotionally vulnerable clients. Knowing an exercise is not the same thing as knowing when to use it, when to adapt it, when to stop and when the correct intervention is referral.
What certification means
Certification records that you have completed the relevant Nine Realms Institute practitioner pathway and any assessment or completion requirements attached to it.
Where practitioner-use rights are part of that training, you may use the relevant NRI frameworks and methods professionally within the boundaries of your competence and scope.
NRI certification does not make somebody a doctor, psychologist, psychotherapist, counsellor or other regulated professional where those titles or activities are legally protected.
No certificate can decide whether a particular client, problem or situation is appropriate for you to work with. That responsibility remains yours.
Professional-use rights
“I am trained in this” and “I am qualified to handle everything this client might bring” are not interchangeable statements.
A Boundless Practitioner or Sanomentology Practitioner may use the relevant NRI methods professionally. That does not mean they should work beyond their existing abilities, ignore medical or psychological risk, or treat a training certificate as permission to wander into areas requiring specialist clinical competence.
Good practice means recognising when another professional is better placed to help. Referral is not failure. Sometimes it is the most competent thing a practitioner does.
Health, diagnosis & treatment
Words such as healing, trauma, subconscious and change need to be used carefully.
Nine Realms Institute includes psychological models, experiential training, guided processes, philosophical material and areas of open enquiry. Some programmes also discuss health, ageing, menopause, pain, stress, consciousness or healing.
That does not mean an NRI-trained practitioner is automatically authorised to diagnose disease, prescribe medication, alter medical treatment, provide protected mental-health services, claim to cure illness or advise a client to abandon appropriate healthcare.
Where medical, psychiatric, psychological or other regulated care is needed, NRI work should sit within an appropriate professional context or alongside referral to the relevant qualified person.
If your qualification does not already permit you to do something, an NRI certificate does not magically make that legal on Tuesday morning.
Claims & language
Practitioners should describe their training truthfully and avoid implying qualifications, status or clinical authority they do not hold.
A simple rule
The best practitioners I know are not the people who claim they can deal with everything. They are the people who can recognise what is in front of them, work well inside their scope and know when somebody needs something else.
That is the standard I want attached to Nine Realms Institute practitioner training.
Scope & Certification
Otherwise all we have done is give somebody more tools without helping them decide when to put one down.
